Juan Carlos was born in 1867.  Juan Carlos' father was Facundo Frías Iramían and his mother was Carolina Helguera Garmendia.  His paternal grandfather was Francisco Javier Frías Araujo and his paternal grandmother is Jenuaria Iramían Diaz Gallo. He had six brothers and four sisters, named Facundo, Carlos Enrique, Jorge, Domingo Enrique, Jorge A., Alberto, Carolina, Amalia, Amalia and Rosa.  He was the eighth oldest of the eleven children.
