Francisco José was born in 1858.  Francisco José's father was Estanislao Frías Molina and his mother was Eloisa Piñeyro García.  His paternal grandfather was Félix Ignacio Frías Araujo and his paternal grandmother is Luisa Maria Molina López. He had seven brothers and three sisters, named Eduardo Esteban, Estanislao, José Félix, Carlos José, Leopoldo, Ricardo, José María, María Elena, María Catalina and María Eloisa.  He was the second oldest of the eleven children.
