José was born in 1737.  José's father was José Frías Alfaro and his mother is Maria Josefa Suárez de Cantillana.  His paternal grandparents were Domingo Gerónimo Frias Paz and Josefa Alfaro y Bravo de Zamora. He had a brother named Francisco Javier.  He was the younger of the two children.  He died at the age of 80 in 1817.
