Samuel was born in 1851.  Samuel's father was José Miguel Benigno Frías Fernandez de Còrdova and his mother was Juana Manuela Zárraga Chávez.  His paternal grandfather was José Benigno Frías Araujo and his paternal grandmother is Felipa Fernandez de Còrdova y Mendez Melo. He had six brothers and seven sisters, named Carlos, Miguel, José Maria, Manuel Jesús, Angél María, Casto, Juana Manuela, María Adriana, María Luisa, Martina Liboria, Trinidad Josefina, María Rosario and Manuela Matilde.  He was the fourth oldest of the fourteen children.  He died at the age of 69 in 1920.
