Roberto was born in 1895.  Roberto's father is Roberto Urquiza Illa and his mother was Amalia Frías Helguera.  His maternal grandparents were Facundo Frías Iramían and Carolina Helguera Garmendia. He had a brother and four sisters, named Diógenes, María Carolina, Angélica, Rosa Blanca and Amalia Josefina.  He is the oldest of the six children.
